Hurricane Sandy: Start Helping

       
             A natural phenomenon, Hurricane Sandy brought a legion of disaster to the eastern coast of the United States. More specifically, in the Hudson Valley. With many people left without power, the dangerous forces of nature have wrecked havoc all throughout the area. Fortunately, few people were injured/killed during the storm, but it has left a large scar in many people’s minds. With many homeless, the Rockland County has begun repairs.

            Giant waves crashing on the coast, wreaking hundreds of homes. High winds shake the trees violently, blowing them over. Mobile home owners were urged to evacuate. And by the time they got back, many had found that their homes have been destroyed. “This is the worst flooding I've seen since I was a kid in the ‘60s,” Leslie Cowen said. A generator even triggered a fire, leaving another 23 people homeless. Locals have begun to raise money for the unlucky families by holding concerts, food drives and more. The county has begun providing the people with no homes/with damaged homes with temporary shelters and free food until everything is back in order. One woman even gave away hot dogs to people who didn't have much to eat. “They wanted me to come down and sell, but I wasn't going to do that,” said Avdonyan. She helped prepare and give away the hot dogs. Stores have also began to provide dry ice for refrigerating.
